About Me
My name is Matthew Lee, and I'm an undergraduate student at the London School of Economics (LSE). I was born in Hong Kong, but then moved to Canada when I was 3, and then moved again to the UK for secondary school. Having the experience of living in different cultures really helped me in my study of history as it allowed me to have an increased understanding of different attitudes and values.

When I was 8 years old, I visited the Imperial War Museum in London, but being so young I wasn't allowed into their Holocaust exhibition. Being stopped from learning about this major historical event ironically helped to spark my interest in history, and from then on I've always loved reading books on World War II, especially autobiographies. It's sometimes difficult to really connect with events that happened such a long time ago, so learning about my family's connection to the war in Hong Kong added more meaning to my study.

Beyond the classroom, I take part in many different activities for relaxation. Whether I am exploring my creativity by playing the cello and piano or learning to work effectively as a team while playing tennis and football, I’ve learned the importance of focus, perseverance, and determination.
